Dads and other primary caregivers often return to work quickly after their baby arrives, missing out on vital opportunities to stay engaged, involved, active, and informed during the transformative stages of becoming a new parent.
RAD FAMS is an innovative group designed to accommodate work schedules while supporting the new family system. We offer community connection and opportunities for caregivers to remain informed, engaged, and involved .
Over four Saturday mornings, this facilitated group will provide new parents (with babies aged 0-1 year) a chance to connect with other local new parents, build a supportive community, and share experiences about the transition to parenthood. Participants will also engage in education and information sessions with specialists in maternal health, parenting, and relationships.
RAD Fams, is a new parents group that runs consecutively for 4 weeks. It shifts from a family to an individual focus It is designed to be a dads which offers educational and social support for fathers. The program also emphasises community building, helping new parents form lasting connections that extend beyond the five-week course. By tailoring support specifically for first-time parents, RAD FAMS equips them with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the early stages of parenthood with ease, making it a more inclusive, holistic, and supportive option than a typical new parents' group.
Confident dads , from the beginning…
Since the launch of RAD Dads, it became evident that some fathers found it difficult to attend sessions alone with their children. Understanding the importance of fostering confident fatherhood from the start, RAD FAMS was created to ensure that fathers feel supported and engaged. While many new dads may feel more comfortable attending sessions with their partners nearby, providing a space exclusively for dads allows them to build their confidence in caring for their children independently.
Encouraging fathers to participate from the beginning is crucial in breaking down traditional gender stereotypes and promoting active and engaged fatherhood. By connecting with other fathers, dads can develop a strong support network, reducing feelings of isolation and stress. This active participation not only benefits the fathers themselves but also fosters stronger family bonds and healthier child development. Through engagement and conversation, RAD FAMS aims to create a community where fathers can thrive and contribute positively to their families.
